Decorating the nursery for your new addition is one of the many fun things about having a baby. Here are two things to keep in mind when choosing how to decorate a nursery.
Furniture
Furniture items for your nursery are going to be the major expenses. Above all, and especially when it comes to the crib, safety is of utmost importance. Just because something looks nice and suits your decorating taste does not mean it is the safest choice for your baby. When choosing furniture that is safe, keep it within the theme you have chosen. Stained wood is very popular and will match just about any theme. This is especially handy as your child gets older and you need to change the theme or colors of the room. Make sure you make a note of on your pregnancy calendar to make sure you don’t get behind in ordering your furniture or decorating.
Theme
You may want to decorate to a specific theme. Zoo and barnyard animals are always popular. These two themes can grow with your child, so you won’t have to change them constantly. They are also gender neutral. Speaking of gender, if you are waiting until the birth to find out the sex of the baby, then a gender-neutral theme is definitely the way to go. Neutral theme items include wall color, curtains, and carpet. Having a gender-neural background allows you to create a more gender-specific feel later on by adding smaller “boy” or “girl” items to the room.
If you aren’t sure what to do for your nursery, plan it out step by step. You can set small tasks each week throughout your pregnancy, which will help to evolve the look and feel for your baby when he or she arrives.
